KIRWIN HOUSE: Supported Accommodation
This large Victorian building has been converted into ten unfurnished flats. Six are fully self-contained and four have their own toilet and washroom facilities but share bathrooms. All flats have central heating and a kitchenette.
Kirwin House also has a fully equipped communal kitchen and dining room / lounge on the ground floor. These can be used for entertaining visitors, social get-togethers, house meetings etc. There is a well equipped laundry in the basement and a twin-bedded guest room on the top floor, which can be booked for your guests at a small charge. The large secluded garden which is maintained regularly by professional gardeners has a patio and a very pleasant outlook.
Kirwin House has a secure door entrance system which allows you to speak to callers before letting them in. Flats are equipped with a 24 hour alarm system; in an emergency help is summoned immediately from the staff next door in Avenue House.
If you come to live in Kirwin House the Friends Housing Bristol management team will welcome you and get to know you personally, and a monthly tenants meeting is held with them in the communal lounge. You can combine the independence of your own flat with use of all of the amenities of Avenue House next door. Some tenants join residents at Avenue House for lunch (at a small charge), for craft sessions, discussions or other activities and excursions. You can also make appointments with the visiting hairdresser and chiropodist.
As is the case with Avenue House, Kirwin House isn’t suitable for pets. If you have concerns about pets and are thinking about coming to live with us please talk to our Manager.
If you find you need extra support on a short term basis, all the care facilities of Avenue House are available, should a room be vacant there. If you come to need basic care and wish to remain in Kirwin House, this would need to be arranged with outside agencies.
There are 8 steps to the front door of Kirwin House, and no stair lift within it. Unfortunately this may be difficult for people with mobility problems.
All tenants are issued with an Assured Shorthold Tenancy Agreement, which sets out the rights and responsibilities of the tenant and Friends Housing Bristol.
As all of the flats are quite different to eachother in shape and size, rentals from one to another do vary. A standard service charge is payable and covers, amongst other things, heating, lighting and cleaning of all communal areas and regular window cleaning. Please contact the Friends Housing Bristol Manager for current rates. Tenants are responsible for paying any bills in respect of council tax, water and sewerage and energy for their own individual flats.
