LANSDOWNE HOUSE: Independent Living
This large Victorian house has been converted into eight fully self-contained one bedroom flats. All have central heating and a kitchenette, and there is a well equipped communal laundry in the basement. Lansdowne House has a spacious garden with an attractive outlook, which is maintained regularly by professional gardeners. There is a secure front door system so you can speak to callers before letting them into the house. If your visitors come from afar, there is a twin-bedded guest room next door in Kirwin House which can be booked via the staff at Avenue House for a small charge. Although Lansdowne House encourages independent living, Friends Housing Bristol considers its residents, tenants and visitors as part of one community, so you are more than welcome to join in any of the activities going on at Avenue House. A monthly Diary of Events is issued to all tenants as well as Avenue House residents. You may wish to make use of some of the amenities there, such as the weekly shop, and are welcome to make appointments with the visiting chiropodist and hairdresser. Some tenants even join the residents at Avenue House for lunch, at a small charge. You will also have the reassurance of knowing that the Friends Housing Bristol management team will get to know you personally and that in an emergency there are always staff on duty in Avenue House who can be called upon for advice and help. The full back-up care service of Avenue House is available if you ever need this, should a room be vacant there.
As with our other houses, Lansdowne House isn’t suitable for pets. If you have concerns about pets and are thinking about coming to live with us please talk to our Manager.
There are some steps up to the front door, and down to the two basement flats, which may be difficult for those with mobility problems.
All tenants are issued with an Assured Shorthold Tenancy Agreement, which sets out the rights and responsibilities of the tenant and Friends Housing Bristol.
Rentals from one flat to another do vary, due to each flat being slightly different in shape and size. A standard service charge is payable and covers, amongst other things, heating, lighting and cleaning of all communal areas and regular window cleaning. Please contact the Friends Housing Bristol Manager for current rates. Tenants are responsible for paying any bills in respect of council tax, water and sewerage and energy for their own individual flats.
